Child's V-neck jacket
Materials: 1-2 balls main, 1 ball contrast Opal 4ply. This one is knitted in Opal Prisma 97 & Opal Rodeo 1154. This will allow enough wool to knit a beanie as per the Pixie Beanie pattern in the free patterns site. Maybe even a pair of socks!!

This is knitted in one piece to armholes and V.
Using 2.5mm needles cast on 156 (180, 196, 220) sts.
Knit 14 rows st. Change to 3mm needles. St st until work measures 17(21, 24, 26) cm.
Knit 39 (45, 49, 55) sts. Place remaining sts on stitch holder. Purl next row. Begin neck shaping. K2 tog each knit row 8 (8, 5, 7) times; then every 4th row 6 (7, 10, 10) times. 25 ( 30, 34, 38) stitches. Work in st st until work measures 25.5 ( 30.75, 35, 38.5) cms. Cast off.
Pick up 78 (90, 98, 110) stitches from stitch holder. Work in st st until work measures 20 (24, 27, 30) cms. Change to contrast and continue in st st until work measures 25.5. (30.75, 35, 38.5) cm. Cast off 25 (30, 34, 38) sts at beginning of next two rows. Put remaining stitches on stitch holder. Using contrasting wool,
Pick up remaining stitches from stitch holder and work the other front opposite to the one already completed.
Sleeve 1: With 2.5mm needles cast on 43 (48, 48, 54) stitches, st st 14 rows and change to 3mm needles. Inc 1 stitch at each edge of next and every foll 4th row 7 (7, 14, 4) times. 58 (64, 78, 64) stitches. Then every 6th row 4 (6, 3, 13) times. 66 (76, 84, 90) stitches. Work in st st until sleeve measures 19(22, 24.5, 29.5) cms. Cast off.
Sleeve 2: Work the same as sleeve 1 using contrast wool or whatever you like to make it.
Turn up and stitch hems. Sew shoulder seams and sleeve seams. Fit sleeves into armholes, stitch. Using 2.5mm needles and right side facing. Pick up stitches to centre of back (half of the ones on the stitch holder) Pick up the same amount from stitch holder and down to hem. Purl back. Divide the number of stitches between body hem and neck decrease by the number of buttons you wish to use on one side. Next row dec 1 stitch at each button spot knit to end. Purl back increasing at the same spot you decreased last row. St st four rows. Repeat button hole rows. St st 2 rows, cast off. Hem the band and sew on buttons.
Then smile at yourself for creating such a great jacket!
