TOTS OPAL 4ply JACKET 1-2 YEAR

Pictured jacket knitted from Harry Potter, Tonks

Materials:
2 x 100g balls Opal 4ply. (plenty left for other projects).
Pair 2.75mm knitting needles
Chest: 56cm, length 30cm, sleeve 23cm

Fronts:
(It is much easier to knit the two fronts together. Use the two balls to match the colour pattern in the wool). Cast on 74st with each ball. Work 2 rows in st. st.
Next row: (Picot fold row). Kl, *yfwd, k2tog, rep from *to last st, k1.
Next row: Purl
Work 2 rows in st.st.
Next 4 rows: K2, P2 rib
Next row: *K2 tog, p2 tog, rep from * to end. 37 stitches.
Work in st.st until 17cm ending with purl row.
Next row: (left front) knit to last 2 sts k2tog. (right front) k2tog, knit to end.
Next row: Purl to last 2 sts, purl 2tog (right front), (left front) purl 2tog, purl to end.
Keep working is st.st decreasing at each neck edge every 2nd row until 18 sts. Continue until work measures 30cm. Cast off. Both fronts matching and finished!

Sleeves:
Still using the same two balls to knit the sleeves together:
Cast on 44 sts. K2, P2 for 11 rows.
Next row: Inc. 1 st at beginning and end of row of both sleeves.
Next row: Purl. Keep working in st.st and increasing both ends each 4th row until 76 sts. Work until sleeves measure 22cm (longer if you wish). Cast off.

Back:
As it is not possible to match the pattern of the back and sides - using one of the two balls to cast on 160 sts. Work 2 rows in st.st.
Next row: (Picot fold row). K1, *yfwd, k2tog. Rep from *to last st, k1.
Next row: Purl
Work 2 rows in st.st.
Next 4 rows: K2, P2 rib.
Next row: *K2 tog, p2tog, rep from * to end. 80sts.
Work in st.st. until it measures 30cm. Cast off 19 sts, knit to end.
Next row: Cast off 19 sts in purl, slip 42 sts onto spare needle.

Front border:
Join shoulder seams. With rs facing commencing at top of frill, pick up and knit 41 sts evenly along straight edge, 43 sts evenly along shaped neck edge, 42sts from neck spare needle, 43 sts evenly along shaped neck edge, 41 sts evenly along straight edge (210 sts)
Work 2 rows in K2, P2 rib.
Next row: Rib to last 41 sts, cast off 2 sts, rib 9, cast off 2 sts 3 times, rib 2.
Next row: Rib 6 cast on 2 sts, *rib 10, cast on 2 sts repeat from * twice rib to end.
Next row: Rib to end and work 2 rows in st. st
Next row: K1, *yfwd, k2tog, rep from * to end.
Next row: Purl
Cast off loosely knit ways.

TO MAKE UP
Fold sleeves in half lengthways, then placing folds to shoulder seams, sew sleeves in position. Join side and sleeve seams. Fold lower edge and front border in half onto wrong side and slip stitch in position to form picot edges.
Sew on buttons.
