A V-neck cardigan for a small baby
Child's Opal Wool cardigan
Finished measurements:
Chest 60cm, length 35.5cm
Materials:
2 balls Opal Sock & Sweater 4ply Yarn (you will have enough left to knit the happy hat)
2.75mm & 2.25mm needles
Back
Cast on 94 stitches on 2.75mm needles
Stocking stitch until work measures 20cm. Cast off 6 stitches at the beginning of next two rows. Dec. 1 stitch in alt rows twice (78 stitches)
When 12.5mm of armhole have been worked. Cast off 25 stitches, knit to end. Cast off 25 stitches, knit to end. Either cast off the remaining 28 stitches or put them on a stitch holder.
Fronts
(I like the knit the fronts together so you can see how the pattern is meeting in the middle. You will have to match the colour sequence of two strands of yarn!)
Cast on 46stitches and stocking stitch for 20cm. Cast off 6 stitches at each armhole. Dec. 1 stitch in alt rows twice (44 sts). Stocking stitch another 6.5cm and begin dec. for neck. Cast off 4 stitches at each neck edge twice on alt rows then dec 1 stitch each alt row until 25 stitches and 12.5cm from armhole beginning. Cast off 25 stitches.
Sleeves
2.75 mm needles cast on 64 stitches. Moss stitch 8 rows. Work in stocking stitch for 8 rows and increase 1 stitch at each end of row. Continue increasing every 6th row until 84 stitches. Continue until work measures 23cm or desired length. Cast off.
Finishing
Sew up shoulders & join in the sleeves. Sew up side seams. Neck: Size 2.25mm needles. Wrong side facing pick up approx 23 stitches on neck, 28 sts from back and the same no stitches from the other neck. (approx 74 sts) Knit 13 rows stocking stitch. Cast off on a knit row. Fold over and hem stitch. Bottom: Pick up 186 stitches around bottom of jacket (wrong side facing). Knit 13 rows stocking stitch. Cast off on knit row. Fold over and hem stitch. Sides: Pick up 90 stitches (wrong side facing). Knit 13 rows stocking stitch. Cast off on a knit row. Fold and hem stitch.
Press lightly and you may make loops to attach around buttons.
