KNIT EASY OPAL HAPPY, WARM  SOCKS FOR YA TOOTSIES (man)

Using 2.25-2.75 mm dp needles, cast on 66 stitches (22 per three needles).  Make sure you haven’t twisted your cast on row.  Rib for 2.5cm.

Stocking stitch rounds and watch the pattern grow for your desired leg length.

HEEL.

Knit 33 stitches (taking 11 from next needle).  Knit back and forth on these 33 stitches for 38 rows.  Still working on these stitches, knit 19 stitches, k2tog, turn. *Sl1, work 6 stitches, k2tog, turn.*  Repeat between *’s til 8 stitches remain on needle, right side facing ready to work next row.

Knit across first needle, pick up 19 stitches along heel flap.  Pick up on stitch in the space between the first and second (instep) needle, knit across middle needle.  Pick up a stitch in the space between the second and third needle.  Pick up same number of stitches along other side of heel flap.  Still keeping the original number of heel stitches on one needle (33).  Divide the remaining stitches onto the two remaining needles.  There may be an odd stitch..just disregard it.

Gusset:

Knit until the needle with the most stitches.  Then k1, k2tog, knit to last 3 sts, k2tog, k1.  Next needle k1, k2tog, knit to end.  Last needle knit to last 3 sts, k2tog, k1.

Work one round without decreasing.  Continue decreasing as above each alternative row  until the original 66 stitches remain in round.

Note:  For a wider foot , make fewer decreases: and narrower foot make more decreases.

Continue to work stocking stitch until desired length is reached, about 3.5 cm shorter than foot length.

Larger stitch needle,  knit 1, k2tog, tbl.  Knit to last 3 stitches, k2tog, k1.  Next needle k1, k2tog, tbl, knit to end.  Next needle knit to last three stitches, k2tog, k1.

Knit one row.

Repeat last two rounds, decreasing each alt round until 28 sts remain, ending with a decrease round.  Knit sts from second needle onto third needle.  Ie.  14 stitches on top and same underneath.     Graft toe – Break wool, thread/weave  through remaining stitches.   Fasten off securely.

Now knit another happy, warm, sock!
