Materials: 2 x 100g balls 8ply Opal (there will be plenty to make beanie or beret to match) or 1 x 150g ball 6ply Opal Back: Using 3.25 mm needles, cast on 69 (75, 81, 87) sts. Moss stitch or rib 10 rows. Change to 4mm needles, st stitch until work measures 15 (16, 18, 20)cm from beginning finishing with a purl row. To shape armhole: Cast off 6 (6, 7, 7) sts at beg. Of next 2 rows. ** Dec. at each end of next row and following alt. Row until 45 (49, 53, 57) sts. Remain. Work 29 (33, 39, 43) rows. Shape shoulders as follows © Cast off 3 (4, 4, 5)sts at beg. Of following 2 rows. Place remaining sts on stitch holder. Front: Work as back to **. Shape neck as follows - Work 29 (33, 39, 43) rows. Shape shoulder as follows © cast off 3 (4, 4, 5) sts. At beg. Of next row. Work 1 row. Cast off. Slip next 21 (21, 23, 23) sts onto stitch holder. Join yarn to remaining sts and work to correspond with other side. Neckband: Back stitch one shoulder seam. With right side facing and 3.25mm needles pick up 116 (126, 136, 146) sts evenly around neck (including sts from stitch holder). Moss stitch or rib 5 rows. Cast off loosely in rib.
