Child's Beret

To fit: Approx 2-5 years.

Materials: 50g Opal 4ply, 25g contrast mohair. 2.75mm knitting needles.

Cast on 92 stitches in mohair and rib 8 rows. Change to the Opal wool. Now work in stocking stitch. First row increase into every stitch (184 sts). Inc once into first stitch on the next row (185 stitches). Work 20 rows in stocking stitch.

Shape top: 1st row: K1, *K2 tog, K21, rep from *to end.
2nd & 4th rows: Purl
3rd row: K1 *K2tog, K20, rep from *to end
5th row: K1 *K2tog, K19, rep from *to end.
Cont. dec in this manner (working one st less between dec each time) in alt rows until 17 sts rem.
Break off yarn, run end through rem sts, draw up and fasten off securely.

To make up: Press lightly, using backstitch, join seam. Put a pom pom or other novelty on top.
