| Mini Sock Bookmarker - "Socks Mark the Page"

MATERIALS:
Small amount of Opal sock yarn
Size 1 dpns or circular needles
GAUGE: No need to worry about gauge as these are for books, not feet!
DEGREE OF DIFFICULTY: Circular or Sock knitting experience helpful
BEGIN SOCK:
With Opal yarn, cast on 24 stitches. Distribute stitches evenly on needles. Being careful not to twist stitches, join stitches in a round and begin knitting in a K1 P 1 rib for 7 rows.
Continue knitting leg in st st (knit every round) for 12 more rows.
TURN HEEL:
NOTE: I used the short row heel for my socks, but you may use your favorite heel pattern instead
Using 12 stitches for heel knit in this manner:
Row 1: Knit 11 st, leaving last st on needle, turn.
Row 2: Wrap one st (Yo backward) and purl to the last st. Leave st on needle, turn.
Row 3: Yo, knit to the pair of st from last row, turn.
Row 4: Yo backward, Purl to the pair of st from the last row, turn.
Repeat rows 3 and 4 until there are 4 st in the center of the heel and three sets of paired st plus 1st on each needle.
This will be the 1st row of heel base.
Row 1: Knit 1 (1st. stitch of pair) correct the mount of the yo (to do this- slip purlwise turn the stitch over and slip back on the left needle) Knit 2 tog, turn.
Row 2: Yo backwards, purl to the paired stitches made by the previous row, purl the 1st stitch of pair, ssp the yo with the 1st stitch of the next pair, turn.
Row 3: Yo, Knit to the 1st. stitch of the pair, correct the mount of the next 2 yo's- Knit 3 tog (2 yo's + 1st stitch of next pair), turn.
Row 4: Yo backward, Purl to next yo (next 2 loops are yo's) sssp (2yo's with 1st stitch of next pair), turn.
Row 5: Yo, Knit to next yo, correct the mount of the next 2 yo's, knit 3 tog, turn.
Repeat last 2 rows until all yo's of the heel back have been used, ending with row 4.
The last row will be on the right side. Yo, knit to the end of needle.
You will now have 14 st, one st at each end of needle will be placed with instep st's and knit in this manner: Knit 2 tog on first instep needle and K 2 tog at last 2 st of instep.
You will now have 24 stitches. Begin knitting the foot in stocking stitch for 10 rows.
DECREASE TOE IN THIS MANNER:
Row 1: *K 4, K 2 tog, repeat from * around.
Row 2: K around.
Row 3: *K 3, K 2 tog, repeat from * around.
Row 4: K around.
Row 5: *K 2, K 2 tog, repeat from * around.
Row 6: K around.
Row 7: *K 1, K 2 tog, repeat from * around.
Row 8: K 2 tog around. Break yarn leaving a 12" tail.
FINISH:
Thread yarn needle and weave tail in remaining stitches on needles, Pull stitches tight and finish toe on the inside of sock. Leave cast on tail at this time.
Make a twisted cord with 3 strands of matching yarn, each about 2 1/2 feet long. When cord is twisted knot ends. Using tail of sock cuff, sew one end of knotted cord to each sock. You now have a bookmark.
