BASIC OPAL BABY SOCK. . .
- Small amounts of leftover Opal yarn
- 2.5 - 2.75mm dp needles (or your favourite size)
Cast on 28 (32) (36) stitches
Join yarn being careful not to twist. Knit all stitches for 2 rounds. Work a K2, P2 rib for approx 3 -4cm
Then knit in stockinette (knit all rounds) for 3cm (or desired length) [OPTIONAL] Knit 4 rounds of K2, P2 rib.
This helps hold sock on baby's feet.
HEEL: Divide stitches for heel: 14 (16) (18) sts and put remaining stitches on stitch holder for instep later.
HEEL FLAP:
Row 1: Sl 1, K1 across
Row 2: S1, P across
Repeat these 2 rows for 12 (14) (16) rows. total.
HEEL TURN:
Row 1: K 9 (10) (11) stitches, K2tog, turn,
Row 2: Purl 5 stitches, P2tog, turn.
Row 3: K 5 stitches, K2tog, turn
Row 4: P5, p2tog, turn
Repeat rows 3 and 4 till all stitches are worked. Knit one row across
GUSSET:
Pick up 7 (8) (9) sts along side of heel flap, K2, P2 rib across instep stitches, pick up 7 sts along other side of heel flap,
knit remaining heel sts. Replace all stitches evenly on 4 dpns and knit one complete round.
GUSSET DECREASE:
Decrease the first 2 instep stitches [K2tog] and decrease the last 2 instep stitches [k2tog] till you have same amount of sts as you cast on.
FOOT:
Continue in rounds and knitting K2, P2 rib on instep stitches till foot measures 5cm (6cm) (7cm)
TOE:
Decrease the first 2 instep stitches [k2tog] and decrease the last 2 instep stitches [K2tog] every other round for 4 rounds.
Then decrease in same fashion every round till 2 stitches remain. With tapestry needle, sew through last 2 stitches, pull tight and bind off.
